Lantern Fly (Lycorma delicatula, Fulgoridae), nymph and adults
These strikingly patterned planthoppers are extremely common during the height of summer in Beijing and compete for space on tree trunks with the multitude of vacated cicada instar skins. They can be mistaken for moths or butterflies in flight as they are large-winged and the hind wings are a startling scarlet.
